DESIGN MANAGER - DEMOLITION, CUT & CARVE & GROUNDWORKS
Location: Central London (Hybrid Working)
Salary: £80,000 - £90,000 per annum
An established demolition, cut-and-carve and groundworks contractor is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join their team on a permanent basis. The role will be based in Central London, offering a hybrid working arrangement and the opportunity to work on complex, high-profile enabling works projects across the capital.
The Design Manager will be responsible for managing the design process from tender stage through to construction and handover. This includes coordinating consultants, temporary works designers, structural engineers and specialist subcontractors to ensure designs are buildable, compliant and aligned with programme and commercial requirements.
You will play a key role in early-stage design development, value engineering, risk identification and mitigation, particularly on cut-and-carve and demolition-led schemes. The role involves close collaboration with project managers, commercial teams and site teams to ensure design solutions support safe and efficient delivery.
The role includes managing design programmes, reviewing and challenging technical submissions, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and relevant standards, and maintaining clear design communication across all stakeholders. You will oversee design workshops, manage design changes, support temporary works coordination, and ensure all design information is issued in line with construction sequencing and site requirements.
Applicants must have proven experience working as a Design Manager within demolition, cut-and-carve, groundworks or enabling works environments. Strong knowledge of temporary works, structural alterations and early-stage enabling works is essential. Experience delivering projects in Central London or other constrained urban environments is highly desirable.
You will need excellent coordination and communication skills, the ability to manage multiple design packages simultaneously, and confidence working within multidisciplinary teams. A construction-related qualification is preferred.
The role offers a salary between £80,000 and £90,000 per annum, depending on experience, along with hybrid working, long-term career progression and the opportunity to work on technically challenging and prestigious projects.
