PSR Solutions is recruiting on behalf of a leading Tier 1 main contractor for an ambitious Design Manager. The role is based in South Wales with travel to projects across the South West region and South Wales.

You will oversee the design function from early stages through to completion, coordinating with consultants, clients and internal teams to ensure practical, compliant design solutions that support delivery on site.

Qualifications

  • Background in design management within the construction industry.
  • Strong awareness of regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Comfortable working with project information, technical documentation and delivery schedules.
  • Practical approach to design with on-site deliverability in mind.

  • Oversee design coordination from early project stages through to completion.
  • Act as a key point of contact between the design function and wider project team.
  • Ensure technical information is delivered accurately and supports construction requirements.
  • Monitor compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and project standards.
  • Review technical proposals and identify potential issues affecting cost, programme or delivery.
  • Assist with bringing design consultants and specialists onto projects.
  • Coordinate consultant information, deliverables and design deadlines.
  • Work with the project team on approvals, technical submissions and design queries.
  • Carry out regular site visits to review design implementation and resolve issues.
  • Contribute to improving buildability, value and overall project performance.

Job description

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading Tier 1 main contractor, seeking an ambitious, experienced, and strategically minded Design Manager to join their team. The position is based in South Wales and requires travel to sites and projects across the South West region or South Wales.

This is a varied role working alongside project, commercial, and construction teams, responsible for ensuring design information is coordinated effectively and supports the successful delivery of projects from early stages through to completion.

The role requires overseeing the design function on allocated projects, working closely with consultants, clients, and internal teams to ensure design solutions are practical, compliant, and aligned with project requirements.

Qualifications and experience:
  • Background in design management within the construction industry, ideally on complex projects.
  • Sound technical knowledge with a strong awareness of regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Comfortable working with project information, technical documentation and delivery schedules.
  • Practical approach to design, with a focus on ensuring solutions can be efficiently delivered on site.
  • Naturally analytical, with the ability to assess issues and find effective solutions.
  • Confident contributing to design development and explaining technical matters clearly.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across project teams and with clients.
  • Commercially minded, with an understanding of how design decisions, variations and changes can influence project cost and delivery.
  • Experience within a main contractor or Tier 1 environment would be advantageous.
