Seeking a Freelance Design Manager with proven Ministry of Justice (MoJ) or HMPPS project experience. Responsible for leading, coordinating, and assuring multidisciplinary design delivery across all project stages.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the full design process from concept to delivery.
• Coordinate architectural, M&E, structural, security, and specialist design inputs.
• Ensure compliance with MoJ Technical Standards, security requirements, and governance procedures.
• Lead design reviews, workshops, and stakeholder engagement (incl. HMPPS, governors, estates teams).
• Oversee design assurance, risk management, and CDM / BIM / ISO19650 compliance.
• Maintain the design programme and manage design deliverables, submissions, and change control.
• Liaise with contractors, consultants, and statutory bodies to enable design development.

Requirements

• Strong MoJ / HMPPS project experience (mandatory).
• Background in design management within construction or public sector estates.
• Understanding of secure environments, MoJ governance, and technical standards.
