Job summary

RJ McLeod (Contractors) Limited is seeking a skilled Design Management Engineer based at the Stocksfield office with occasional site visits. You will coordinate design processes, liaise with engineers, utilities and authorities, and help deliver projects on time and within budget.

Ideal candidates have a civil engineering background, experience in design‑and‑build environments, and a track record of managing multi‑disciplinary teams to meet project objectives and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with civil engineering projects, ideally in renewable energy infrastructure, highways or marine construction.
• Familiarity with NEC3/4 and FIDIC contracts.
• Experience using MS Project or other planning software.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to remote sites when required.

Job description

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Design Management Engineer to join our team. This role is well suited to someone with a strong civil engineering background and experience in managing design processes within design‑and‑build environments.

You will primarily be based at our Stocksfield office, with site visits as required. Working as part of our pre‑construction and tendering team, you will develop cost‑effective engineering solutions, coordinate the design process, and liaise with consulting engineers, public utilities, local authorities and statutory bodies such as the Environment Agency and Natural England. Your work will play a key role in the successful delivery of our projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply strong technical knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices and standards.
• Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation.
• Work collaboratively with clients, stakeholders and internal teams to define project objectives, scope and deliverables.
• Monitor project progress, track key performance indicators and take appropriate action to address risks or issues.
• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, contractors and subcontractors.
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, stakeholders and statutory authorities.
• Implement and maintain quality management processes to ensure projects meet required standards and specifications.

Skills & Experience

• HND, BEng, MEng or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• Experience in civil engineering projects, ideally within renewable energy infrastructure, highways or marine construction, with exposure to projects exceeding £10m in value.
• Familiarity with MCHW or National Grid specifications.
• Working knowledge of NEC3/4 and FIDIC contracts.
• Experience using MS Project or other planning/programming software.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to remote sites when required.
