Our Client
Integrated design and build provider in the water sector with over 1,000 staff across eight regional centres, supporting six long‑term water sector frameworks and two recently won frameworks, operating both as a sole contractor and in joint ventures and alliances.
The Role
Our client is looking to strengthen their Engineering team with Design Engineers at all levels and in all disciplines – Civil, EICA, Mechanical and Process. Based in the Severn Trent Water region, you will report directly to the Principal Engineer or Regional Discipline Lead.
Your role will be to provide superior quality Engineering Design services to minimise risks and maximise profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts. You will co‑ordinate the design and produce design documents and drawings taking due account of health and safety requirements, specifications and standards pertaining to the contract.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce design layouts which are cost effective, meet the requirements of the specification and can be constructed and commissioned effectively. Cost includes design time, material, erection and any impact on other disciplines.
- Ensure that standard practices are utilised wherever possible and maintain competitiveness.
- Provide estimates and feedback for the Proposals department.
- Follow procedures and processes to ensure the continuing development of the department and monitor their effectiveness.
- Write, update and monitor efficient procedures to aid the smooth running of the department.
- Coordinate designs with all other disciplines, internal and external, to ensure the contract is delivered as a whole.
- Maintain files and records throughout the duration of contracts.
- Assure customer satisfaction and work within a culture where customer focus is key.
- Assist in supervising and developing staff and ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
- Ensure designs take account of environmental issues and all health and safety requirements.
Experience / Qualifications
- Experience in technical delivery of complex water industry engineering projects.
- Understand the principles of water and sewage treatment.
- Have experience of managing/mentoring members of staff in designing relevant discipline aspects of water and sewage treatment plants.
- Membership of a professional institution, chartered or nearing chartership.
- Relevant discipline Engineering qualification.
- Ability to rationalise designs and produce economic plant layouts.
- Good general knowledge of all aspects of water treatment, including electrical, process, civil engineering and project management.
- A flexible mind with the ability to assimilate large amounts of different data at one time.
- Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently and convincingly.
- Computer literacy.
- Driving licence.
- Experience of working on design and construct projects using digital design.
