Overview
A leading global power management and technology organisation is seeking a Design & Engineering Manager (Electrical) to join their growing Data Centre team.
This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for managing the design, development, and delivery of innovative electrical solutions for large-scale data centre projects. The successful candidate will provide engineering leadership across the full project lifecycle, from concept design through detailed design, construction support, and commissioning.
The role requires a strong electrical engineering background within mission-critical environments, with experience delivering complex data centre electrical infrastructure and leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Electrical Design Manager on data centre projects, leading the electrical design scope from concept stage through to construction support and project closeout.
- Provide hands‑on technical leadership and ownership of critical electrical design elements for mission-critical facilities.
- Lead and coordinate electrical engineers, specialists, and multidisciplinary design teams across multiple projects.
- Manage design deliverables, engineering resources, project schedules, and quality standards.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and support to engineering teams.
- Develop and maintain electrical design standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Review and approve electrical designs, calculations, reports, and technical specifications.
- Lead technical reviews, value engineering exercises, optioneering, and engineering decision‑making processes.
- Act as a client‑facing technical lead, attending meetings with clients, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
- Participate in site visits to review installations, resolve technical issues, and support commissioning activities.
- Collaborate closely with project management, commercial, and construction teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Support innovation initiatives and the adoption of emerging technologies within data centre environments.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering (BSc or MSc preferred).
- 8+ years’ experience delivering electrical engineering solutions within mission‑critical facilities.
- Proven experience designing and delivering electrical infrastructure for data centres, including:
- Medium and low voltage distribution systems
- Transformers
- UPS systems
- Standby generation
- Critical power systems
- Strong understanding of electrical design standards, codes, and industry best practices.
- Experience leading engineering teams and coordinating multidisciplinary project stakeholders.
- Experience supporting projects through design, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Strong technical knowledge combined with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working within the data centre sector.
- Background in building services / MEP consultancy or mission-critical engineering.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit.
- Understanding of electromechanical systems, including:
- Cooling systems
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Knowledge of data centre operational technologies and emerging trends such as AI infrastructure and edge computing.
- Experience with value engineering and delivering efficient, scalable solutions.
