Job summary

Spencer Ogden is seeking a senior Design & Engineering Manager (Electrical) to lead the design, development and delivery of electrical solutions for large-scale data centre projects.

The role requires a strong electrical engineering background in mission-critical environments, with experience delivering complex infrastructure and guiding multidisciplinary engineering teams through concept, detailed design, construction, and commissioning.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering (BSc or MSc preferred).
• 8+ years’ experience delivering electrical engineering solutions within mission‑critical facilities.
• Experience delivering data centre electrical infrastructure across LV/MV, transformers, UPS, standby generation, and critical power.
• Experience leading engineering teams and coordinating multidisciplinary project stakeholders.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit.

• Act as Electrical Design Manager on data centre projects, leading design from concept to construction closeout.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership and ownership of critical electrical design elements.
• Lead and coordinate electrical engineers and multidisciplinary design teams across projects.

Overview

A leading global power management and technology organisation is seeking a Design & Engineering Manager (Electrical) to join their growing Data Centre team.

This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for managing the design, development, and delivery of innovative electrical solutions for large-scale data centre projects. The successful candidate will provide engineering leadership across the full project lifecycle, from concept design through detailed design, construction support, and commissioning.

The role requires a strong electrical engineering background within mission-critical environments, with experience delivering complex data centre electrical infrastructure and leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the Electrical Design Manager on data centre projects, leading the electrical design scope from concept stage through to construction support and project closeout.
• Provide hands‑on technical leadership and ownership of critical electrical design elements for mission-critical facilities.
• Lead and coordinate electrical engineers, specialists, and multidisciplinary design teams across multiple projects.
• Manage design deliverables, engineering resources, project schedules, and quality standards.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and support to engineering teams.
• Develop and maintain electrical design standards, procedures, and best practices.
• Review and approve electrical designs, calculations, reports, and technical specifications.
• Lead technical reviews, value engineering exercises, optioneering, and engineering decision‑making processes.
• Act as a client‑facing technical lead, attending meetings with clients, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
• Participate in site visits to review installations, resolve technical issues, and support commissioning activities.
• Collaborate closely with project management, commercial, and construction teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Support innovation initiatives and the adoption of emerging technologies within data centre environments.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering (BSc or MSc preferred).
• 8+ years’ experience delivering electrical engineering solutions within mission‑critical facilities.
• Proven experience designing and delivering electrical infrastructure for data centres, including:
• Medium and low voltage distribution systems
• Transformers
• UPS systems
• Standby generation
• Critical power systems
• Strong understanding of electrical design standards, codes, and industry best practices.
• Experience leading engineering teams and coordinating multidisciplinary project stakeholders.
• Experience supporting projects through design, construction, and commissioning phases.
• Strong technical knowledge combined with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working within the data centre sector.
• Background in building services / MEP consultancy or mission-critical engineering.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit.
• Understanding of electromechanical systems, including:
• Cooling systems
• Building Management Systems (BMS)
• Knowledge of data centre operational technologies and emerging trends such as AI infrastructure and edge computing.
• Experience with value engineering and delivering efficient, scalable solutions.
