Universal Business Team is recruiting on behalf of a growing specialist design-and-delivery business for a Design Engineering Manager in Wetherby. You will own design governance, lead a multidisciplinary in-house team and ensure high-quality outputs across multiple projects in complex care and healthcare environments.

Reporting to the Operations Director, you will implement robust design management processes, coordinate with sales, delivery and clients, and explore opportunities for AI,

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading a design team in construction or specialist environments.
• Strong governance, coordination and assurance of design outputs.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Revit and BIM environments.
• Commercial awareness and ability to influence scope, cost and schedule decisions.
• Ability to manage 50-70 live projects concurrently.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate in-house design activities across a diverse project portfolio.
• Establish and embed robust design management procedures, standards and governance.
• Ensure design compliance with statutory regulations and industry standards.
• Oversee design resource planning, workloads, deliverables and release schedules.
• Implement quality checks, KPIs and performance metrics for continuous improvement.
• Support commercial decision-making, value engineering and cost control through design.
• Act as a client-facing technical authority on complex projects.
• Work with Project Managers to ensure smooth design-to-delivery handover.
• Explore AI, automation and potential offshoring opportunities within design.
