Job summary

A leading engineering firm seeks a Mechanical Engineer to support project delivery, focusing on creating detailed drawings and managing product specifications. The role requires a strong background in Engineering with proficiency in 3D CAD tools, particularly Creo or SolidWorks, and an understanding of manufacturing techniques. Ideal candidates will possess a mechanical engineering degree and experience in an Automotive, Aerospace, or Defence context. The position is contract-based with potential for extensions and offers hybrid working options.

Qualifications

  • Practical knowledge of workshop theory and hands-on engineering practices.

Job description

Roles & Responsibilities :

1. Support the Lead Engineer in delivering project and product line requirements.
2. Create solid models and detailed drawings using Creo 6.0 or higher (experience with SolidWorks is beneficial).
3. Utilise PLM software, preferably Windchill 10.1 or higher (EPDM experience is also advantageous).
4. Manage Bill of Materials (BoM), CAD models, and engineering drawings with precision.
5. Engineer products to meet key targets such as cost, weight, and strength.
6. Assist in the development and adherence to project timelines.
7. Ensure material selection is appropriate for performance and cost effectiveness.
8. Design for manufacturability and assembly feasibility, ensuring smooth production processes.
9. Work in compliance with ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards.
10. Willing to travel in the UK and internationally as required.

Experience:

1.Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification, or relevant industry experience.
2. Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it (preferred).
3. Experience in Automotive, Aerospace, or Defence Engineering environments.
4. Proficiency in design and manufacturing techniques for low to medium volume production, including welding, fabrication, machining, and composites.
5. Strong background in concept creation, development, detailed design (components & assemblies), and engineering drawings.
6. 3D CAD proficiency for modelling and engineering drawings (experience with Creo or SolidWorks preferred).
7. Expertise in material selection to meet performance and cost targets.
8. Understanding of structural performance assessment and analysis techniques.
9. Practical knowledge of workshop theory and hands-on engineering practices.

Project Duration: Contract / FTA (6 months) with potential extension

Job Type:
1. Full-time. Based on-site and potential for hybrid working subject to operational needs.
2. Willing to travel in the UK and internationally as required.
3. Security Clearance: SC
