Williams F1 Team is seeking a Design Engineer to own power unit integration from concept through detail design, ensuring optimal packaging, mounting and thermal management within the chassis. The role requires hands-on work across R&D, dyno and production testing to achieve race-ready solutions.
You will collaborate with suppliers and multidisciplinary teams to resolve complex packaging challenges while maintaining strict engineering standards and deadlines in a high-pressure racing environment.
For almost 50 years, Williams has been at the forefront of one of the fastest sports on the planet, being one of the top three most successful teams in history competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship. With an almost unrivalled heritage of engineering and racing F1 cars and unforgettable eras that demonstrate it is a force to be reckoned with, the British squad boasts 16 F1 World Championship titles to its name.
Since its foundation in 1977 by the eminent, late Sir Frank Williams and engineering pioneer Sir Patrick Head, the team has won nine Constructors’ Championships, in association with Cosworth, Honda and Renault. Its roll call of drivers is legendary, with its seven Drivers’ Championship trophies being lifted by true icons of the sport: Alan Jones, Keke Rosberg, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve. The team has made history before and is out to make it again with a long‑term mission to evolve and return to the front of the grid.
About the Role
Our Design Engineers own their work from the first sketch to the finished part on the car. The Power Unit Integration group sits at the heart of the car, making sure the power unit and its supporting systems are packaged, mounted, cooled and connected to perform at their best within the chassis. As a Design Engineer in the team, you’ll take complete integration projects from conceptual through to detail design, then see them through R&D, dyno and production build and test programmes. You’ll be designing components and structures such as PU mounting, cooling and exhaust systems, fuel system and energy store installation hardware, where every gram, every millimetre of packaging space and every pound counts.
The role is highly collaborative, working closely with our power unit supplier and with teams across the business including aerodynamics, vehicle science, transmissions, chassis structure and the stress office. And when issues arise on the dyno or at track, you’ll be the one who gets to the root of the problem and puts the fix in place quickly. It’s a hands‑on role for someone who enjoys solving complex packaging and interface challenges and wants to see their work make a real difference on track.
Your responsibilities
About you
You’ll be degree qualified in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace, Marine or a related engineering discipline, with strong CAD skills. Experience with Siemens NX is preferred, but if you’re coming from another CAD system, we’ll provide training!
You’ll bring:
Just as important is how you work. Integration is all about interfaces, so you’ll be comfortable balancing competing requirements from different teams and finding the best overall solution for the car. You’re self‑motivated and innovative, happy working under pressure with minimal supervision, and you lead by example. You’re an open‑minded, constructive team player who can engage and support those around you to build a high‑performance culture. You’re approachable, show balanced judgement and a high level of personal integrity, and you’re able to collaborate with people at every level of the organisation.
