About the Role
Unipart Manufacturing is launching a flagship, fast-paced manufacturing project in Coventry, combining high-volume electrification assembly with complex injection moulding inputs. Fully aligned with Unipart’s Sector and Growth Strategy and The Unipart Way Forward Plan, this exciting venture will scale rapidly from zero to over 200 team members within a four-month period. We are looking for an ambitious Design Engineer to play a key role in developing cutting-edge electrification and injection‑moulded assemblies for a high‑priority project. Joining at the ground level, you’ll turn complex engineering challenges into production‑ready designs in a fast‑paced, high‑impact environment.
As part of your key responsibilities you’ll focus on:
Drive Complex Product Development – Lead modelling, detail design, and engineering solutions for advanced assemblies, directly integrating electrification systems and injection‑moulded components
Agile Scope and High Impact – Join a high‑priority, fast‑moving initiative right at the ground level, offering high autonomy to shape processes, adapt to evolving project needs, and influence technical outcomes as the program progresses
End‑to‑End Design Ownership – Bridge concept design with practical manufacturing, delivering robust mechanical models, production‑ready drawings, and tooling considerations tailored for low‑to‑high volume manufacturing assembly
Cross‑Functional Collaboration – Partner closely with internal manufacturing teams, project management, and external defence clients to turn rigorous technical requirements into reliable, high‑performance solutions
Safety and Compliance Focus – Maintain rigorous compliance with Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) standards, ensuring all design work meets stringent quality and statutory safety protocols
Defence and Quality Standards – Familiarity with UK Defence Standards (DEF STAN, STANAG), ISO 9001/AS9100 quality frameworks, or relevant plastics/electrification regulations (e.g., UL 94, IP ratings, IEC 62619) is highly desirable
About You
Technical Engineering Expertise – Proven experience designing mechanical assemblies, with specific hands‑on exposure to electrification systems, plastic injection moulding, or complex fabrications
Qualifications and Background – Degree or HND educated in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent industrial experience) with strong fundamentals in drafting and design for manufacture (DFM)
Adaptable and Dynamic Mindset – Highly organised and self‑motivated, with a ‘can‑do’ attitude that thrives in fast‑paced environments where requirements and project scopes dynamically expand
Collaborative Communicator – A strong team player and natural influencer who exercises sound judgment under tight deadlines, actively building positive relationships across cross‑functional engineering teams and customer interfaces
