Role Overview
As a Design Engineer or Graduate Design Engineer, working a blend from home and then either in North Yorkshire or London offices, you will play a vital role in the designing of Domestic, Commercial, Renewable Heating systems, District Heating Schemes & Networks. You will contribute to the design, coordination and implementation of mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems for new construction projects and renovations. You will work closely with architects, project managers, and other engineering disciplines to ensure that projects meet client requirements, industry standards, and regulatory codes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting in the design and development of building services systems, including HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), mechanical, heating & plumbing systems.
- Collaborate with clients, manufacturers, customers & engineers to produce detailed design calculations, equipment sizing, system layouts, and specifications.
- Conduct site visits and surveys to gather data and assess existing systems for retrofit projects.
- Participate in design coordination meetings to ensure seamless integration of building services systems with architectural and structural components.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, design drawings, and construction documentation.
- Assist in conducting feasibility studies, energy audits, and sustainability assessments to optimise building performance.
- Stay updated with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to building services engineering.
- Collaborate with the client's project teams to review and evaluate contractor submittals, RFIs (Requests for Information), and change orders during the construction phase.
- Support the commissioning and testing of building services systems to ensure compliance with design intent and performance objectives.
- Foster effective communication and teamwork with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve project goals within specified timelines and budgets.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in using design software such as AutoCAD, Revit or building simulation tools.
- Knowledge of building services systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, air source heat pumps and heating systems; familiarity with sustainable design principles and energy efficiency strategies is beneficial though not essential.
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a relevant discipline is desirable, but not essential.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to apply engineering principles to practical design challenges.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members, clients, and contractors.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast‑paced environment.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, regulations, and industry standards.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high‑quality work within project deadlines.
Salary
Negotiable Base Depending on Experience, 33 days holiday, Training & more.
Location
Hybrid working – Home working with then 2 days a week in the office based either from the Head Office in North Yorkshire or possible option of King's Cross, London office.
