Severn Trent Plc is seeking a Design Engineer to join the in-house Wastewater Networks Design Team in Raynesway (Derby). You’ll support and progressively take ownership of design work packages for wastewater infrastructure and CSO projects, collaborating with hydraulic modellers, project managers and specialists to develop safe, practical solutions.

You will explore options, develop innovative approaches, and produce coordinated designs and reports.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified (desirable) with progress toward incorporated or chartered status.
• Engineering discipline required.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence required.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer. The role will be based in Raynesway (Derby). This role will sit within our expanding in-house Wastewater Networks Design Team, supporting the development of civil engineering solutions for our wastewater infrastructure and CSO programme. Our Design Team uses its technical expertise to develop wastewater network solutions from feasibility and optioneering through outline design. As a Design Engineer, you will support and progressively take ownership of technical work packages, with appropriate support and assurance from senior engineers.

You will work with hydraulic modellers, Project Managers, Operations, consultants, contractors and technical specialists to understand wastewater network problems and develop safe, practical and sustainable engineering solutions. You will use hydraulic modelling, asset records, operational evidence, surveys and site investigations to assess options and produce coordinated design information that supports investment and delivery decisions.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Support feasibility assessments, optioneering and outline design for wastewater network projects addressing storm-overflow (CSO) performance and other waste water network improvements

You'll explore different engineering solutions and use your judgement to help identify options that are safe, practical, sustainable and provide lasting value

You'll help identify and develop innovative wastewater solutions, including SuDS and nature-based approaches, considering their hydraulic performance, practicality and wider environmental benefits

Produce coordinated civil designs, calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports for wastewater assets, including sewers, chambers, shafts, storage tanks, pumping stations, flow controls and sustainable drainage features.

Work closely with contractors and colleagues across integrated, multidisciplinary project teams to develop coordinated, buildable solutions that are practical to construct, operate and maintain

Ensure Health and Safety are built into the lifecycle of the design

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

You'll be degree qualified (desirable) and actively working towards incorporated or chartered status, a journey which we are keen to support you on.An engineering discipline would be required.

Excellent internal and external stakeholder management skills.

You will be forward-thinking, capable of anticipating challenges and responding to change in a rapidly evolving environment.

A full UK driving licence will be required.
