A leading engineering firm in the defence sector is seeking an experienced Design Engineer for an immediate project in Swindon. The role involves producing detailed drawings, leading mechanical design efforts, and ensuring compliance with MOD standards. Candidates should have over 5 years of relevant experience and expert knowledge of AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS. This is a full-time, on-site, Outside IR35 contract.

Qualifications

Design Engineer (Defence Sector)

OUTSIDE IR35 (LTD) Contract – Rates: Negotiable (DOE)

5 Month CONTRACT – Full-Time On-Site (5 Days/Week) in Swindon, Wiltshire

The Opportunity: Immediate Start Required

A leading engineering firm in the defence sector is seeking an experienced Draftsman / Design Engineer for an immediate, high-impact project focused on critical power and distribution systems within a secure facility. This is a crucial role supporting the ESF Facility project, requiring full-time commitment (5 days per week) on-site in Swindon to ensure seamless project delivery and access to sensitive information.

Key Requirements & Responsibilities
  • Design & Drafting: Produce precise, detailed drawings for complex equipment, including generators and power distribution equipment, utilizing AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS.
  • Mechanical Design Leadership: Lead and contribute significantly to the mechanical design of systems and their supporting structures, ensuring adherence to strict performance criteria.
  • Project Lifecycle Support: Provide hands‑on engineering support throughout the entire project lifecycle, including prototype build, rigorous testing, and qualification phases, promptly resolving design issues and implementing corrective actions.
  • Compliance & Review: Conduct essential design reviews and manage configuration activities, maintaining compliance with relevant MOD and Defence Standards for mechanical and power systems.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years of hands‑on design engineering experience, specifically having completed projects involving generators and electrical distribution equipment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expert‑level proficiency in both AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS.
  • Defence Sector Knowledge: Proven familiarity with MOD standards and Defence Standards relevant to mechanical and power systems, plus an understanding of manufacturing processes for military‑grade equipment.
  • Security: Must currently hold or be immediately eligible to obtain entry‑level security checks (BPSS).
