Job summary

Teledyne Technologies Incorporated's Raymarine division is seeking a Design Engineer to develop robust, manufacturable marine electronics products from concept to production. You will create 3D models and manufacturing drawings in SolidWorks, evaluate technologies, and work with cross-functional teams to meet performance, environmental and regulatory requirements.

You will build prototypes, run tests, manage design activity to schedule and budget, travel to suppliers and customers as needed, and

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in product design or mechanical design engineering or related subject.
• Proven experience in mechanical design, ideally in high-volume manufacturing.
• SolidWorks for 3D modelling and manufacturing drawings.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical components and sub-systems throughout full product development lifecycle.
• Identify and evaluate technologies and design solutions meeting requirements.
• Create robust mechanical designs and 2D/3D drawings using SolidWorks.
• Apply engineering principles, simulation, and DFx to improve quality.
• Build prototypes and carry out verification/validation tests.
• Plan and manage design activities to meet timescales and budget.
• Collaborate with project management, hardware, software, supply chain and compliance, and external suppliers.
• Travel to suppliers/customers as required (Asia/Americas).
• Adhere to Raymarine policies including ethics, cyber security, environment.
• Undertake required training.

Job Description

• Develop mechanical components and sub-systems throughout the full product development life cycle.
• Identify and evaluate technologies and design solutions that meet functional and performance requirements.
• Create robust mechanical designs, three-dimensional models and two-dimensional manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
• Apply engineering principles, simulation, failure analysis, design for manufacture and geometric dimensioning to improve product quality.
• Build prototypes and prepare and carry out verification and validation tests including hands-on testing and analysis of your designs.
• Plan and manage your design activities to meet agreed project timescales and budget constraints.
• Work closely with colleagues across project management, hardware, software, supply chain and compliance as well as external suppliers.
• Travel to suppliers or customers when required, including locations in Asia and the Americas.
• Carry out the role in accordance with all relevant legislation and following Raymarine's policies and processes, including those relating to ethics, compliance, cyber security, product development, labour and human rights, and the environment.
• Undertake all mandatory training as requested.

To be ready to take on this role we would love if you have

• A degree or equivalent qualification in product design, mechanical design engineering or a related subject.
• Proven experience in a mechanical design role, ideally within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks for three-dimensional modelling and manufacturing drawing creation.
• A good understanding of manufacturing processes such as casting, injection moulding and machining.
• Practical experience of developing products from concept through prototyping, testing and production.
• A sound understanding of design for quality and design for manufacture principles.
• Excellent communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Fluency in written and spoken English, and willingness to work onsite with the team at least four days per week.
