Job summary

Sapien is seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join our Derby-based engineering team, working on complex turbomachinery and rotating equipment designs.

Ideal candidates have gas turbine or turbomachinery experience, or gearbox design/manufacturing exposure, and a proven ability to take concepts through production with strong CAD skills.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of mechanical design experience.
• Experience in gas turbine/ turbomachinery or gearbox design and manufacturing.
• Proven track record taking designs from concept to production.
• Strong CAD skills and manufacturing process knowledge.
• Experience collaborating with customers and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design activities from concept through production.
• Create and maintain complex mechanical and turbomachinery designs.
• Ensure designs meet technical, manufacturing, performance and customer requirements.
• Manage multiple engineering projects and deliver on cost and schedule.
• Produce and maintain engineering drawings and design documentation.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering and customers to resolve issues.
• Support design reviews, technical assessments and product development.
• Present technical information and design solutions to teams and customers.

Sapien is looking for an experienced Design Engineer to join our clients engineering team in Derby, working on the design and development of complex turbomachinery and rotating equipment.

Our ideal candidate will have direct gas turbine or turbomachinery experience, but we are also keen to speak with engineers who have experience in gearbox design, gearbox manufacturing, gas turbine equipment or high-speed rotating machinery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute mechanical design activities from concept through to production.
• Create, develop and maintain complex mechanical and turbomachinery designs.
• Ensure designs meet technical, manufacturing, performance and customer requirements.
• Manage multiple engineering projects and deliver designs to agreed cost and schedule.
• Produce and maintain engineering drawings and design documentation.
• Work closely with manufacturing, engineering and customers to resolve technical issues.
• Support design reviews, technical assessments and product development activities.
• Present technical information and design solutions to internal teams and customers.

Essential Experience

• 6+ years' relevant mechanical design experience.
• Strong experience in one or more of the following areas: Gas turbine design or engineering, Turbomachinery, Gearbox design, Gearbox manufacturing, Gas turbine equipment / component manufacturing, Rotating equipment or other highly engineered mechanical systems
• Proven experience taking designs from concept through to production.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes and engineering requirements.
• Experience working with customers and cross-functional engineering teams.
• Strong CAD experience; Siemens NX experience is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.
• Relevant industry experience will be considered in place of formal qualifications
