Job summary

A technology engineering company based in Birmingham is seeking an experienced Design Engineer for a 2-year contract. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of experience in mechanical, aerospace, or marine engineering, with strong skills in design and SolidWorks. Responsibilities include designing components for challenging environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The position offers a competitive rate of £35-£45 per hour, outside IR35, with flexible working options.

Design Engineer

Location: Birmingham

Job type: 2 year contract

Rate: £35p/h- £45p/h limited OUTSIDE IR35 - depending on experience

Flexibility for contractors staying away and ability to work a 4 day week

Design Engineer Responsibilities

• Work from customer requirements through to design, testing, and production, collaborating across engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.
• Design components for challenging environments, considering pressure, temperature, and fluid compatibility.
• Produce 3D models and detailed drawings using SolidWorks, applying BS8888 and GD&T.
• Run calculations, create test plans, and validate designs through FEA, CFD, and physical testing.

Design Engineer Experience

• Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Marine Engineering.
• 5 - 10 years’ experience, ideally with valves, hydraulics, or fluid systems.
• Strong skills in design, materials selection, and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with APQP, FMEA, 8D, and other quality/process tools.
