Job summary

Brandon James is seeking an experienced Design Director to lead design across a growing Design & Build contractor delivering high-quality commercial interiors and workplace environments.

You will own the design vision from concept to completion, collaborate with Pre-Construction, Commercial and Construction teams, mentor a design team, and play a key role in securing new opportunities with clients.

Design Director - Leading Design & Build Contractor

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Design Director to join a growing and ambitious Design & Build contractor specialising in the delivery of high-quality commercial interiors and workplace environments.

This Design Director opportunity is ideal for a creative and commercially aware individual who can combine design leadership with client engagement and practical project delivery.

The successful Design Director will take ownership of the design vision across a growing pipeline of internally generated Design & Build opportunities, leading projects from initial concept and competitive pitch through to construction and completion.

Working closely with the Project Lead, Pre-Construction, Commercial, Technical Design and Construction teams, the Design Director will ensure exceptional design is balanced with buildability, budgets and programme requirements.

Design Director Responsibilities

• Lead the creative direction and design strategy across multiple Design & Build projects.
• Develop and deliver compelling client presentations, pitches and design proposals.
• Oversee the design process from initial concept through technical development, construction and completion.
• Ensure design solutions are innovative, technically achievable and aligned with project budgets and programmes.
• Collaborate with Pre-Construction, Commercial and Construction teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Build strong client relationships and play a key role in securing new opportunities.
• Mentor and develop existing Project Designers, helping strengthen the wider design team as the business grows.

Design Director Requirements

• Proven experience as a Design Director, Head of Design or Senior Design Lead within the Design & Build or commercial fit-out sector.
• Strong creative vision combined with a practical understanding of construction and project delivery.
• Experience leading client pitches, developing design concepts and securing Design & Build opportunities.
• Excellent understanding of technical design, buildability, project budgets and construction programmes.
• Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Relevant degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, Interior Design or a related discipline.
• Experience managing and mentoring design teams would be advantageous.

Design Director Salary & Package

Salary: £90,000 - £110,000 per annum.
