Overview
About the role

A Design Director at Turner Duckworth holds an important role with responsibility to ensure that all our work delivers against the creative requirements of a brief. A Design Director is the right‑hand man/woman to their Creative Director; supporting them at every step. Design Directors typically work across anything from 1-3 brands at a time, and will be heavily involved from initial strategy phases to final artworks, working with planners, accounts, production and the Creative Director. You will need to be capable of stepping in to brief teams / artworkers / illustrators etc, build and present presentations and attend calls and design reviews in a Creative Director's absence. Between yourself and the Creative Director, you will need to facilitate and contribute actively to discussion in meetings to find solutions and push the creative.

Responsibilities
  • Leading and mentoring design teams: Setting the creative bar high through guiding, inspiring and nurturing designers, leading design reviews
  • Pen to paper when needed: When the work's not there (yet) or that last concept is missing, it's the responsibility of the Design Director to deliver it
  • The ability to present and discuss creative work in an articulate manner, both internally and externally in a way that exemplifies both brand language and Turner Duckworth's 'Unmistakable Principles'
  • To build and maintain strong relationships with brand managers, understanding their needs and acting as part of their team, making unarguable cases for great work and demonstrating a deep understanding of their primary brands
  • To act as the go‑to within agency on brand meaning, assets and current state of play
  • To work alongside our New Business team, contributing to pitches on an ADHOC basis
  • To work closely with Client Services team with regards to scheduling design teams for each project within the studio
Qualifications
  • Experience of working in an established branding, design or creative agency
  • Experience of working with (and ideally leading) Global CPG clients across a range of brand identity, brand creation and packaging projects
  • A keen eye for detail combined with high levels of design crafting highest standards of craft and effectiveness
  • Highly proficient in photoshop, indesign, illustrator
  • Desirable to have experience in Adobe XD, After effects, Premiere Pro, Acrobat Pro
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • The ability to multi-task and juggle multiple projects at once
