Job description

Brownlee Cale is looking for a talented Design CAD Engineer with a background in Civil Engineering to join our client working in the water industry. You will support the design and delivery of both infrastructure and non‑infrastructure projects, from outline and detailed design through to construction and commissioning support.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop within a collaborative, forward‑thinking engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce high‑quality 2D and 3D CAD drawings for civil and drainage design, in line with client specifications and design standards.
  • Support the preparation of design solutions, drawings, reports, specifications, calculations, and estimates across various project stages.
  • Work closely with multi‑disciplinary teams to ensure the integrity and coordination of designs.
  • Collaborate using CDE platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud and BIM 360.
  • Contribute to project planning, programming, and commercial management activities.
  • Engage with clients and senior managers to ensure effective communication and technical accuracy.
  • Undertake or support surveying and data evaluation (GPS tools, manhole tables/cards, PCI development).
  • Ensure all work complies with Health & Safety, CDM Regulations, and ISO 9001 quality procedures.
  • Stay up to date with the latest technologies and design methods through continued professional development.
Key Skills & Experience
  • Qualified CAD Engineer with a background in Civil Engineering.
  • Experience within the UK water sector, ideally on non‑infrastructure or drainage design projects.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D (or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of UK Water Industry standards, Sewer Sector Guidance, WIMES, and CIWEM.
  • Understanding of hydraulic design principles.
  • Awareness of BIM integration and digital engineering best practice.
  • Surveying experience advantageous.
  • MEICA knowledge desirable.
