Dermatology Advanced Nurse Practitioner

We are looking for an Dermatology Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join our team! We are recruiting to a 37.5 hour post, working Monday - Friday (part time hours, will be considered).

The role of the Advanced Clinical Practitioner is to work across professional boundaries, undertaking a variety of clinical duties, within the context of the clinical team and to work within Dermatology. The Advanced Practitioner is required to work as an autonomous clinical professional. Within the multi‑disciplinary team, the Advanced Practitioner will support the provision of high‑quality patient‑centred health care. To identify, assess, diagnose and treat adults with various Dermatological conditions.

While this position is advertised as a Band 8a role, applicants who do not currently hold an MSc in Advanced Practice or equivalent qualification may be considered for a Band 7 to Band 8a development opportunity. In such cases, the role would begin as a temporary Band 7 post, with progression to a permanent Band 8a upon successful completion of the MSc qualification. This development pathway would be offered as a fixed‑term contract for two years. If you are an internal candidate or employed by another NHS Trust, secondment approval from your current line manager would be required. Main duties of the job

Depending on your knowledge, skills, and experience, you will be a key member of the Dermatology Outpatient Team, providing expert clinical advice to support accurate clinical judgement in the diagnosis, ongoing assessment, decision‑making, treatment, and management of dermatology patients within the setting.

You will lead the clinical development of the dermatology service in partnership with the Consultant team, contributing expertise in clinical governance and supporting the educational growth of colleagues. Advanced Practice in dermatology is delivered by experienced, registered healthcare practitioners. It involves a high degree of autonomy and complex decision‑making, underpinned by a master’s level qualification or equivalent that encompasses the four pillars: clinical practice, leadership and management, education, and research. This includes demonstrating core capabilities and clinical competence specific to dermatology. The post holder will proactively advance the role by applying lessons learned from both the educational programme and practical clinical experience. The aim is to improve patient outcomes by enhancing access to dermatology services.

  • To independently receive and make referrals and lead the management of own caseload for dermatology patient treatment, diagnosis and follow up across health care settings.
  • To utilise advanced clinical reasoning skills and evidence‑based knowledge in the management of patients with complex presentations and to be clinically competent to utilise skills and knowledge in a variety of clinical settings.
  • To make independent clinical decisions and initiate investigations, care/treatment, and technological intervention within an agreed framework.

  • To lead in the implementation of dermatology nursing strategy across the Trust incorporating national and international standards into local practice.
  • To inform and influence local management teams to ensure that the service responds to relevant dermatology national initiatives and directives (e.g. NICE, IOG, Peer Review).
  • To work in partnership with the team and other areas in the Trust on the strategic and operational planning of the dermatology service and to be responsible for the developments of nursing practice.
  • To create, develop and implement guidelines and protocols of care relevant to medical dermatology in partnership with local/national/international agencies.
  • To contribute to and influence the national dermatology policy agenda.
  • To provide expert input to the Trust’s quality strategy by expressing the needs of the patient through a whole system approach rather than a unilateral professional view.
