Job summary

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is seeking experienced nurses to progress their careers and specialise within acute inpatient services as a Deputy ward manager. The role includes leading shifts on a rotation, acting as primary nurse to service users and carers, and maintaining communication with multidisciplinary teams.

Job description

North View are looking for experienced Nurses who would like progress their career and specialise within Acute inpatient services as a Deputy ward manager. Our new state-of-the-art adult mental health inpatient hospital, North View, became fully operational on Monday 18 November 2024. The bespoke, purpose-built development replaces Park House on the (NMGH) site and marks the beginning of a new chapter for the future of inpatient mental health care for people in Manchester. The new hospital significantly improves patient privacy and dignity, providing:

  • 150 single en-suite bedrooms which are provided over nine single sex wards, including a purpose-built Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), six adult acute wards for female and male adults, one female older adults ward, one male rehabilitation ward and a treatment suite that supports research and innovation studies.
  • An assessment suite (specifically for people needing a place of safety and assessment under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act).
  • A variety of internal activity areas and multiple outside garden spaces, specifically designed to enhance the environment and aid recovery., The post holder will take charge of the shifts on a rotational basis, act as a primary nurse to service users and their carers, as well as being responsible for the establishment and maintenance of effective communication with all relevant personnel who contribute to the care of the service user both internal and external to the Trust.
  • All staff working within our Trust should adopt our values. All staff have a responsibility to contribute to high standards of care, they need to: Be a quality inspector, and reporting everything, especially where you need help to put it right. Take a pro-active role in identifying risks and acting on the results to resolve problems at source. Take part in risk management practices, both clinical and non-clinical in line with the Trust Risk Management Strategy to help reduce risks to the safety of patients. You must be a committed and competent RNMH looking for a new challenge and development opportunities making a real difference with adults and carers in an acute setting. Preparation for Assessor/Mentorship or willingness to work towards
  • Proven experience at Band 5 (or equivalent) within the same specialty with evidence of ongoing development or evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Substantial post-qualification experience of working with people with severe and enduring mental illness
  • Evidence of applied understanding of the needs of clients and complex presentations in Mental Health in-patient care (within specific speciality)
  • Demonstrable evidence of knowledge of clinical risk assessment
  • Demonstrable evidence of knowledge of NMC Standards and Code of Conduct
  • Demonstrable evidence of knowledge of change management processes in the leadership and support of large groups of staff
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of best clinical practices relevant to the area
  • Knowledge of the role and function of other organisations who provide services to clients with mental health problems
  • Ability to demonstrate sound clinical leadership skills in a large multi-disciplinary team
  • Be able to implement the Trust's Equal Opportunities Policy into work settings
  • Ability to translate clinical risk into care plans
  • Demonstrable evidence of excellent written/verbal communication skills
  • Ability to present ideas with clarity and in a persuasive and influential style

  • Pay Enhancements 30% additional for Evenings (8pm onwards) and Saturdays and 60% additional for Sundays and Bank holidays.
