Job summary

NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group is recruiting a Band 6 Sister/Deputy Ward Manager for ward 5A at Royal Liverpool University Hospital, a key site within the group. The role focuses on nursing leadership, clinical guidance and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team on a busy HPB/general surgery ward.

You will support the ward manager, provide guidance to nursing staff, participate in audits, develop staff learning and ensure adherence to Trust policies in a fast-paced surgical

Qualifications

• Experience in surgical nursing is a necessity.
• HPB experience is an advantage.
• Ability to lead and support multidisciplinary teams and provide practical guidance.

Responsibilities

• Co-ordination of the ward on a day-to-day basis including planning, allocation and evaluation of work.
• Provide specialist knowledge to nursing staff on the ward/department.
• Promote a critical, analytical approach to nursing care and ensure the environment reflects current issues.
• Assist in review and update of procedures and protocols relating to patient care.
• Develop methods for identifying, maintaining and improving quality of patient care through benchmarking.
• Respect patients' customs, values and beliefs.
• Explore expanded practice to optimise patient care within the specialist area per Trust policies.

Job description

An opportunity for a band 6 sister/Deputy Ward Manager nurse on ward 5A at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, one site of the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

You will be part of the 5A family which prides itself on professionalism, teamwork and patient and colleague support. This ward, which includes an enhanced recovery unit, specialises in hepatic, pancreatic and biliary surgery and all general surgery.

This post is for a band 6 to work alongside the ward manager to help with nursing leadership on ward 5A. You will have excellent clinical and communication skills being able to give practical guidance to nursing staff, along with direction and support to the multidisciplinary team. In addition the post holder will be supporting the ward manager in ensuring good practice by taking part in audit, facilitating learning and development of nursing staff, and general management required to run a busy surgical ward.

Experience in surgical nursing is a necessity, HPB experience is an advantage.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Co-ordination of the ward/department on a day to day basis including planning, allocation and evaluation of work carried out by teams or individuals and self.
• Provide specialist knowledge to all Nursing staff on the ward/ department
• Will promote a critical, analytical approach to the delivery of nursing care ensuring that the ward/ department environment is responsive to current issues.
• In support of the ward/ department manager will assist in the review and update of procedures and protocols relating to the care of patients
• Develop methods for identifying, maintaining and improving the quality of patient care through facilitation of best practice and clinical benchmarking.
• Ensure due regard is given to the customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients/clients.
• Explore and undertake expanded practice to optimise patient care as required within specialist area, in accordance with Trust policies.
