Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the friendly and supportive Ward 9 & SAU team in a leadership position. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Registered Nurse to join the team as a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse, who is able to act as an expert resource for the surgical speciality service, across the two ward areas.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting and monitoring of standards.

He/she will take part in managing appraisals, sickness management and audits for the ward team and will be expected to be able to deputise for the band 7 in her absence. He/she will support in the management responsibility for a team of nurses and will have specific responsibility for providing professional support. The post holder will be expected to carry out all relevant forms of care and will be designated to take charge of the ward on a regular basis.

Job responsibilities

To practice as a professional nurse, acting with confidence, authority and expertise. To be accountable for the assessment of care needs: the development, delivery and evaluation of nursing care for a named group of patients. To act as the patient’s advocate, ensuring a caring environment both physical and psychological. To act as an expert resource on clinical practice and take a supporting role in the supervision of staff. To evaluate current clinical practice and, through audit, lead a changing setting, maintaining and monitoring standards relating to clinical care delivery. To maintain accurate and legible records of care. Follow the Code of Professional Conduct as laid down by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and ensure that all staff follow the code. To liaise with other health care workers within the hospital and community to promote health, welfare and care of patients. To lead a team approach to patient care with emphasis on clinical development. To take a lead role in research and research-based practice.
