Overview

The Scotland Office supports the Secretary of State in promoting the best interests of Scotland within a stronger United Kingdom. It ensures Scottish interests are fully and effectively represented at the heart of the UK Government, and that the UK Government's responsibilities are fully and effectively represented in Scotland.

Responsibilities
  • Operating a smooth and efficient Private Office and ensuring that day-to-day ministerial business is transacted in a timely and effective manner.
  • Establishing and running effective systems, processes and structures within the Private Office - supporting the department's wider transformation projects.
  • Build strong internal relationships with Ministers, SpAds and Officials within the department. Credibly speaking truth to power where required.
  • Manage change and supporting Ministers and the department as the role adapts to meet Ministerial expectations and business needs.
  • Working creatively and kindly, remaining cogniscent of the resourcing pressures unique to a small Office.
  • Deputise for the Principal Private Secretary as needed.
  • Working closely with the Principal Private Secretary to develop an extensive programme of learning and development to support the team.

Role Details

The role will be based in London, at the Scotland Office in Dover House. The role is Grade 7 and comes with an additional stipend, known as a Private Office Allowance.

Additional Information

The role is not suitable for part-time or job share. Additional Private Office Allowance is included.
