Your Role: Deputy Managing Editor - Classic FM

This is an outstanding opportunity to become the new Deputy Managing Editor at Classic FM, joining the senior management team of the UK’s most popular classical music station. Classic FM is a leading national radio brand with 4.5 million weekly listeners and over 9 million followers on social media, and is renowned across the globe. This is a rare and exciting chance to play a key role in shaping the output, management and strategy of a successful, vibrant and hugely popular national radio station.

Key Responsibilities
  • Creative vision: Together with the Managing Editor, devise and implement the creative direction of the station to engage and grow audiences on all platforms.
  • Team Leader: Guide and coach Classic FM’s presenters and producers, discover and develop new talent for the future and link with Global’s different departments.
  • Representing Classic FM: Deputise for the Managing Editor and represent the brand at meetings and events, learning what it takes to become a Managing Editor.

  • Demonstrated people‑management and leadership skills.
  • Devised and implemented ways to hone and improve the output.
  • Managed key projects from conception through to delivery.
  • Brought creative ideas to fruition that engaged and built audiences.
  • Shown the ability to successfully deputise for the Managing Editor.
Experience You’ll Need
  • Radio production: At least 5 years experience producing audience‑grabbing radio or a medium with transferable skills.
  • Operational skills: Manage multiple projects and deliver them on tight timescales.
  • Classical music: Previous knowledge of classical music (doesn’t need to be encyclopaedic if you can demonstrate a significant connection and passion).
  • Creative thinking: Devise concepts big and small to engage Classic FM’s audiences now and attract future listeners.
  • Talent management: Experience managing high‑profile and highly talented individuals.
  • Stakeholder management: Identify and best serve key stakeholders.
  • People management: Demonstrable experience managing an ambitious and diverse team.
  • Coaching and development: Skilled in nurturing talent by empowering and guiding individuals to unlock their potential.
  • Building trust: Create and maintain an inclusive environment where diverse views and experiences are welcomed and celebrated.
