Deputy Manager - Children's Residential Services

Location: London borough's and Hertfordshire
Salary: £35,000-£45,000
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

We're hiring on behalf of a leading provider of children's residential care services, dedicated to supporting young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD), SEMH, and other complex needs.

Main Responsibilities
  • Support the Registered Manager with all aspects of running the home, ensuring compliance with Ofsted and regulatory standards.
  • Lead shifts and oversee the daily operations of the staff team.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring, and guidance to Residential Childcare Workers and Team Leaders.
  • Build and maintain positive, trusting relationships with young people.
  • Act as a role model—promoting independence, self-esteem, and resilience.
  • Ensure care and placement plans, risk assessments, and reports are kept up to date.
  • Manage and participate in the on-call rota and deputise for the Manager when required.
  • Attend multi-agency meetings, audits, and reviews, contributing to ongoing service improvement.
  • Promote safeguarding, equality, and inclusion in all areas of practice.
Essential Criteria
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
  • Experience working in a children's residential setting
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Knowledge of Ofsted Quality Standards and relevant childcare legislation
  • Ability to motivate a team, manage shifts, and ensure high standards of care
  • Emotional resilience and a genuine passion for improving the lives of young people
  • Full UK driving licence
Desirable Criteria
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (Children and Young People) or willingness to work towards it
  • Experience supporting young people with EBD, SEMH, or other complex needs
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and positive behaviour support
