Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year’s experience in Residential Children’s Social Care, ideally as a Senior Support Worker.
  • Strong understanding of The Children’s Home Regulations.
  • Confident in dealing with challenging situations.

Deputy Manager - Residential Children's Home (Chippenham)

Are you a passionate and experienced leader in residential children’s social care, ready to make a real difference?

This is a unique and rare opportunity to join a progressive, trauma‑informed group of Children’s Homes that champions the values of a Therapeutic Community. We believe in upholding strong relationships as central to our practice, taking an empathetic and engaging approach with young people, their families, and professionals.

Our home is a three‑bed residential setting, specialising in providing care for young people with learning difficulties and emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Salary: Up to £38,600 per annum, depending on experience.

Location: Chippenham

Contract: 42 hours per week, including on‑shift working (07:30‑21:30) and administrative shifts (08:30‑16:30). All shifts are flexible and open to discussion with the RM.

Your Role

As a key leadership figure, you’ll be instrumental in assisting the Home Manager with the day‑to‑day operations. This includes:

  • Ensuring the safeguarding, supervision, and mentorship of all children and staff.
  • Effectively managing team members.
  • Assisting with all operational tasks related to running the home.
  • Promoting strong, empathetic relationships with young people, their families, and external agencies, in line with our therapeutic community values.

We’re Looking For Someone Who Is
  • Experienced in Residential Children’s Social Care, with a minimum of one year’s experience, ideally as a Senior Support Worker.
  • Possesses a strong understanding of Trauma‑Informed Care and a therapeutic background.
  • Holds a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Residential Childcare.
  • Has a UK Driving Licence.
  • Confidently understands The Children’s Home Regulations and all associated legislation.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, effective communication, and nurturing interpersonal skills.
  • Confident in dealing with people, with the ability to challenge, guide, and mentor.
  • Has a clear DBS and positive references from all previous roles working with children or vulnerable adults.
  • Possesses the ability and strength of character to handle challenging situations in a non‑consequential and nurturing way, with the confidence to set appropriate boundaries.
  • Working knowledge of PACE and an effective understanding of what a therapeutic placement looks like for children.
