This is the work. And we'd like you to be part of it.

Who We Are

Compass Community School Victoria Park is an Independent Specialist SEMH School in Tipton, Sandwell. Praised by Ofsted for its "big heart", the school is seeking a Deputy Headteacher with knowledge and experience of primary teaching and learning, reading, phonics and foundational knowledge.

Our children come from a wide range of backgrounds, but all have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many also have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism, ADHD and communication difficulties.

As a trauma and attachment-informed organisation, all staff receive extensive therapeutic training and support.

Our child-centred approach brings together education and therapy professionals, parents and carers, local authority teams and students to achieve positive outcomes.

The Role

As Deputy Headteacher, you will play a key role in shaping the culture, outcomes and daily life of our school. We are looking for a leader who shares our vision and values and can embody them in every interaction with students, families and professionals.

You will be supported by an experienced leadership structure, including the Deputy Director of Education, Executive Head Teacher, Head of Teaching, Learning and Curriculum, administrative teams and a Regional SENCO. You will also work alongside leaders from similar settings across the organisation.

You will help drive high-quality education, support staff development and work collaboratively with external agencies to secure the best outcomes for children and young people.

This is a leadership role with a teaching commitment and requires resilience, enthusiasm and a commitment to improving the life chances of every child.

  • Experience supporting children with SEMH needs and managing challenging behaviour.
  • Experience developing engaging, ambitious curricula that meet individual needs while maintaining high standards.
  • Experience working effectively with hard-to-reach or disengaged families.

  • Small class sizes with specialist TA support.
  • Opportunity to join a growing national organisation that develops future leaders.
  • Enhanced occupational sickness scheme.
  • Regular therapeutic and supportive supervision.
  • Employee benefits package including wellbeing services, salary sacrifice schemes, vouchers and lifestyle discounts.
