Job summary

Highlands School, a heavily oversubscribed Outstanding secondary, is seeking a deputy headteacher to lead aspects of school improvement and strategic development. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute across areas reflecting their knowledge, skills and experience and be prepared for headship.

A January 2027 start is anticipated. The school emphasises high standards, inclusive practice, and continuing professional development for staff.

Job description

Highlands School is looking to appoint a deputy headteacher. We are a heavily oversubscribed ‘Outstanding’ school (OFSTED 2011, 2014 and 2024) at which students consistently outperform national expectations in terms of both attainment and progress.

Our stated goal is “to provide a world class educational experience for our students. In whatever we do, to be held as an example of best practice to other schools.” This is an aspirational goal but one we judge ourselves against at all times. If you are successful in your application you will play a key role in improving Highlands towards achieving this.

We want to recruit a hard working and driven colleague with very high standards. This vacancy has arisen because one of our deputy heads has just been appointed as a headteacher; the successful candidate will be ambitious and we will support them towards headship too. We appreciate the tight turnaround for this appointment process but we want to have a candidate in post for January 2027.

The areas of responsibility that the successful candidate will lead on will reflect their knowledge, skills and experience. Over time, we expect them to lead on a range of different areas, developing them professionally and preparing them for headship.
