Job summary

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Deputy General Manager to support the General Manager in the operational, performance and financial management of the Cancer Business Unit, covering Oncology, Haematology, Palliative Care, Radiotherapy, Lymphoedema and Familial Cancer services.

Responsibilities

• Support the day-to-day operational, performance and financial management of the Cancer Business Unit.
• Lead and manage designated clinical and non-clinical services, ensuring effective and efficient service delivery.
• Monitor, deliver and improve performance against key national and local targets, including cancer pathways and referral-to-treatment standards.
• Work with clinical and operational teams to develop and implement service improvements, redesign projects and transformation initiatives.
• Develop systems to monitor demand, capacity and workforce requirements to ensure services are responsive to patient needs.
• Analyse complex activity, performance and financial data to support planning, decision-making and performance management.
• Manage delegated budgets and resources, ensuring value for money and achievement of financial objectives.
• Provide leadership, support and line management to multidisciplinary clinical and non-clinical teams
• Contribute to business planning, risk management, governance and quality improvement programmes.
• Develop and implement operational policies, procedures and service plans in line with Trust objectives.
• Deputise for the General Manager as required and participate in the senior manager on-call rota

Job description

The Deputy General Manager will support the General Manager in the operational, performance and financial management of the Cancer Business Unit, encompassing Oncology, Haematology, Palliative Care, Radiotherapy, Lymphoedema and Familial Cancer services. This is a rewarding senior leadership opportunity to make a real difference to the care and experience of cancer patients across Derbyshire and Staffordshire.

Working closely with clinical, managerial and corporate teams, the post holder will support the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality services, driving performance against national and local targets, including cancer pathway standards and referral-to-treatment requirements. They will lead service improvement initiatives, support workforce planning and contribute to the delivery of operational and strategic objectives.

The successful candidate will analyse performance, activity and financial information to support decision-making, business planning and budget delivery. They will work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes, service quality and operational efficiency while ensuring resources are utilised effectively to meet demand.

The role includes responsibility for governance, risk management and compliance with Trust policies and national standards, while providing leadership across a range of services and deputising for the General Manager when required.
