Birmingham Women’s Hospital, part of Birmingham Women’s & Children’s NHS Trust, invites a dynamic and motivated Deputy Director of Operations to join our senior leadership team. This role provides an exciting opportunity to make a real difference within one of the UK’s leading specialist hospitals, delivering care across Maternity, Gynaecology and Neonatal services. You will work closely with clinical teams to ensure our services are safe, efficient and continually evolving to meet the needs of women, babies and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Following the successful implementation of our electronic patient record, lead the organisation into an exciting phase of digital transformation, collaborating with clinical teams to optimise and transform care pathways, harnessing technology and innovation to improve patient outcomes and staff experience.
  • Support the Director of Operations and the senior leadership team in strategic planning, development and redesign of services within the division.
  • Achieve all local and national performance targets as decreed in the Operating framework, and lead the development of partnerships with external agencies and other NHS organisations to support the delivery of BWC services within the local healthcare environment.
  • Work with the Director of Operations and Associate Director of Nursing to ensure the division meets all Care Quality Commission core standards through effective governance systems and processes.
  • Provide senior strategic leadership for the project management of divisional initiatives, maintaining an income and expenditure balance for the Management Group by delivering the agreed savings programme as part of the financial plan.
  • Ensure a robust workforce plan is in place to support the delivery of the plan, keeping staff engaged and valued. Lead and manage complex projects including service development and capital developments, improving capacity, service efficiency, quality and capability, and spearhead large‑scale organisational change.
  • Lead the design and implementation of strategic performance measures and targets, helping to shape the future of activity and financial planning for the division.
  • Maintain senior oversight and expert delivery across frontline teams in the maternity, gynaecology and neonatal services, ensuring high‑quality care and efficient operations.
