This role will lead a high performing team of c10 and act as sponsor and lead for implementation of the Independent Football Regulator.
Football in England is a national success story, and clubs are at the heart of our communities. However, too often our clubs have been at risk of collapse, with 64 administrations since 1992. The Government had a manifesto commitment to introduce a new independent football regulator which was delivered by the Football Governance Act this summer.
The role is until March 2027 to support this key phase as the regulator becomes legally established and moves rapidly into regulating clubs in scope of the system. The post holder will be required to oversee the team delivering the Government’s follow on policy, secondary legislation, sponsorship of the regulator, and ensure the regime is implemented in a timely way.
The successful candidate will get to work with high-profile football stakeholders, advise Ministers and support the regulator to protect the game. You will need to be good at working with stakeholders, confident in providing advice on complex issues to seniors and have a strong background to delivering to tight timeframes.
