Job description

Deputy Manager needed for a brand new EBD Children's Home located in Derby.

Perfect opportunity for someone already working as a Deputy or for an experienced Senior to step up.

You will work alongside the Home Manager to support and supervise a team of Residential and Senior Residential Support Workers to provide quality care to looked after children. You will be able to lead, motivate and enhance the skills of your team and be able to model professionalism and leadership skills. The young people display complex social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and associated challenging behaviours, and need guidance to develop their independence skills and ability to integrate into society. You will be confident and able to step in to the manager’s shoes in their absence.

Deputy Manager role will include:
  • Maintain full compliance with all company policies and procedures, ensuring your own professional development and mandatory training are completed and recorded within required timeframes.
  • Oversee the home’s finances and budgets, ensuring effective management, monitoring and accurate reporting.
  • Lead the staff team in creating a nurturing, warm and supportive environment where children and young people feel safe, valued and able to thrive.
  • Ensure all written documentation, records and reports are completed accurately and within statutory timeframes, meeting both regulatory and organisational expectations.
  • Develop, supervise and support staff, contributing to supervisions, annual appraisals and personal development plans, and ensuring all training needs are appropriately identified and met.
  • Provide high-quality, individualised care to each child, making sure they are involved in all decisions and processes that affect their daily lives.
  • Plan and coordinate activities, events and holidays in line with each child’s care needs and risk assessments.
  • Carry out regular auditing and ensure Care Plans, Risk Assessments and all associated documentation for every child are accurate, current and clearly recorded.
  • Promote the safety, wellbeing and welfare of all children at all times, following national and local safeguarding protocols.
  • Ensure the home and its grounds are maintained to a consistently high standard and any issues are promptly reported.
  • Represent the home, its services and the children in a positive and professional manner at all times.
  • Ensure the home is operated in full accordance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and quality standards, supporting the achievement of a “Good” or “Outstanding” Ofsted rating.
  • Undertake any additional duties or responsibilities assigned by your Line Manager.
  • Conducting Keywork sessions.
  • Liaising between social workers, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
Deputy Manager Criteria
  • Diploma / NVQ Level 3 in children and young people (or equivalent qualification) or above.
  • Senior experience in leading and developing others.
  • Excellent knowledge of requirements of the role and ability to lead others.
  • Ability to work sleep shifts where required.
