Salary: Executive and Senior Managers Grade E £96,982 £124,871 per annum (pro rata for part time)

We are seeking an exceptional and dynamic finance leader to join our senior team as Deputy Director of Finance Financial Services, Capital, and Payroll. This is a key executive role at the heart of Scotland’s largest health board.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, the post holder will provide strategic and professional leadership across NHSGGC’s Financial Accounting, Capital, and Payroll functions.

You will be responsible for leading the continuous development and improvement of the organisation’s financial services, ensuring that all statutory, regulatory, and professional standards are met across financial accounting, fixed assets, treasury management, endowment accounting, and financial control.

Key Areas Of Responsibility Include
  • Leading the Financial Accounting function, ensuring best practice in financial governance, compliance, and reporting.
  • Overseeing the preparation, audit and submission of the Board and Group Statutory Annual Accounts, Healthcare Charity Accounts, and Private Patients’ Funds.
  • Providing leadership for the Capital Finance and Infrastructure function, ensuring a robust approach to planning, prioritisation, and appraisal of capital investment.
  • Managing the Payroll function, ensuring efficient, accurate and compliant delivery.
  • Overseeing the Corporate Risk Management process and reporting to the Audit Committee and Risk Management Steering Group.
  • Acting as the lead interface for Internal and External Audit, ensuring effective planning, governance, and delivery of the audit programme.
  • Deputising for the Director of Finance in all delegated financial matters, both internally and externally.
About You

You will be a qualified CCAB or CIMA accountant with substantial post-qualification experience gained in a senior finance leadership role within a large, complex organisation ideally within the NHS or wider public sector.

  • A proven track record of strategic financial leadership, including financial accounting, audit, capital planning, and payroll management.
  • Deep technical expertise in financial governance, statutory accounting, and capital finance.
  • Exceptional analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly developed communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage confidently with senior clinicians, executives, and external stakeholders.

  • The ability to inspire, develop, and lead teams to deliver excellence in a complex and fast-moving environment.
