Overview

Responsibilities
  • Take responsibility for all aspects of the day to day management and nursing care provided by the Outpatients Departments.
  • Setting standards of care in conjunction with other disciplines, co-ordinate services so that total patient care needs are identified; ensuring individual patient care is given. This involves regular reviewing and updating of patient information, working protocols and pathways.
  • This post will provide managerial advice and support to staff and patients.
  • The successful candidate will maintain a safe working environment, being aware of the necessity to comply with Health & Safety regulations, maintenance and provision of equipment bearing in mind Infection Control policies, decontamination processes and COSHH requirements.
  • The successful candidate will be accountable for and manage budgets and ensure cost effectiveness.
  • The post holder will ensure that services are designed and delivered to the highest standard, and are re-designed to meet the needs of patient pathways and performance targets.
  • The post holder will audit and measure patient experience within the area and create and implement actions accordingly.
  • The post holder will be pivotal in ensuring all staff comply with the Trust’s protocols and policies and ensuring local standards are kept up to date and reviewed.
  • Will develop further services as required and assist with the delivery of activity.
  • The post holder must adhere at all times to the NMC Code and support staff through the Revalidation process.
Clinical
  • Responsibility for ensuring patients receive high standards of care in a safe environment.
  • Evaluating and developing clinical care and acting upon the outcomes of evaluation.
  • Ensuring that equipment is safe for use and report any failures in accordance with agreed department protocols.
  • Keep up to date with clinical developments and standards.
  • Ensure risk register is kept up to date and risks are escalated through appropriate Directorates.
  • To reflect as a Registered Nurse, act within the NMC Code and revalidate as per NMC guidelines.
  • Ensure staff are trained on Tracking and Traceability and understand guidelines and standards relating to decontamination of equipment and that these standards are implemented.
  • To have detailed knowledge of specialist equipment and information on the procedures undertaken within the clinics.
Supervision / Management / Leadership
  • Line Manage the group of staff that work in these areas, specifically dealing with HR issues and attendance issues.
  • Facilitate the appraisal programme and ensure staff training requirements are identified and met.
  • Act as a support/mentor for other staff and provide leadership within the department.
  • Evaluate current services and develop action plans for improving or changing services as required.
  • Support the Junior Sisters in managing the wider outpatient team.
  • Act up in absence of the Matron.
  • Be a role model and support change and innovation.
  • Have budgetary responsibility and accountability for these areas.
