Job description

Dental (Oral & Maxillofacial) – Specialist Doctor

Applications are invited for a Specialty Doctor in a substantive full‑time post in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will join a close‑knit team of three consultant surgeons and four specialist doctors. A special interest and previous experience in delivering a paediatric exodontia service would be beneficial.

The OMFS service is based primarily at Montagu, but also operates at DRI and Rotherham General Hospital. Doncaster Royal Infirmary is the largest site and hosts general emergency surgery. Major elective and emergency OMFS surgery is conducted at Rotherham District General Hospital.

Main Duties
  • Attend OMFS out‑patient clinics and minor oral surgery operating lists
  • Take occasional day‑surgery operating lists
  • Deliver the paediatric exodontia service
  • Supervise, support and train junior doctors
  • Participate in clinical effectiveness and governance activities within the service
  • Share responsibility for patient management, supervision, training and cover during holiday, study or sick leave periods

The appointee may be required to work across trust sites and will not be expected to participate in any on‑call rota at present.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • MBChB/MBBS or equivalent
  • Completed at least four years of full‑time postgraduate training (or equivalent part‑time/flexible) with at least two years in a specialty training programme or equivalent experience
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council at time of appointment and continued licence to practise
Experience and Achievements
  • Demonstrated clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the role
  • Experience in making clinical decisions, managing risk and prioritising clinical need
  • Understanding of current issues and future direction of the specialty
  • Understanding of wider NHS current issues
Teaching and Training
  • Experience and enthusiasm for teaching postgraduate doctors and other health professionals
  • Evidence of academic achievements and research publications
