Main duties of the job

As a Dental Officer, you will be responsible for;

  • Identifying commonly occurring medical emergencies and leading the dental team in the appropriate first‑line management of the emergency, using appropriate techniques, equipment, and drugs.
  • Undertaking a thorough examination of patients and being able to plan, manage and deliver care to a wide range of patients.
  • Planning, developing, implementing and evaluating appropriate interventions to prevent disease and promote health for individual patients.
  • Undertaking appropriate assessment of patients to determine the need for specialist advice as appropriate.
  • Undertaking the diagnosis of periodontal disease; selecting the appropriate periodontal techniques and delivering periodontal care in an effective way.
  • Undertaking routine exodontia and simple surgical exodontias.
  • Undertaking the diagnosis, selection and delivery of appropriate restorative techniques and/or replacement of teeth as required.
  • Considering all appropriate behavioural management techniques.
  • Carrying out comprehensive treatment planning and providing treatment for patients who require treatment under general anaesthesia, including appropriate case selection.
  • Providing advice, training and guidance to colleagues as appropriate.
  • Providing clinical cover, when required, in clinics other than their base.
