Job summary

Richmond and Wandsworth Councils is seeking a Democratic Services Officer on a permanent basis in Twickenham. You will support local democracy, advise councillors and senior officers, and may work across both boroughs with flexible office/remote options.

Evening meeting attendance is required and training opportunities are offered. The role involves developing knowledge of local government procedures, preparing agendas, taking minutes, and advising on procedural issues.

Qualifications

• Solid knowledge of the constitutional and legislative framework for local authority decision making.
• Ability to analyse documents or discussions and extract and summarise key points.
• Strong communication skills, political sensitivity, and effective teamwork.
• Experience with virtual/hybrid meetings and webcasting technology is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and demonstrate knowledge of the constitutional framework for council decision making and provide detailed advice to councillors and senior managers.
• Analyse documents or discussions and extract and summarise key points.
• Communicate clearly to a wide audience and support virtual/hybrid meetings.
• Attend meetings, prepare agendas, take minutes and advise on basic procedural issues.
