All about the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Peterborough City Council's Unitary Authority for an individual to join and lead an experienced team as a Democratic and Constitutional Services Manager.

The role is key to supporting the Council's decision-making process, ensuring decisions of Council, Committees and the Executive follow sound governance. The successful candidate will play a central role in our Constitutional Services Management Team.

You will be required to:

  • Manage and lead the work of the democratic services team who are responsible for essential committee and governance services
  • Support the Head of Constitutional Services and Director of Legal and Governance to deliver a quality democratic service
  • Provide specialist advice and support to Councillors and Officers to ensure effective decision‑making in their service transformation and delivery
  • Ensure that all agenda planning, minute production timescales and accuracy are achieved and recommendations from the Council, Executive, Regulatory and Scrutiny Committees are actioned
  • To be appointed Statutory Scrutiny Officer for the Council

The post holder must be able to work 'out of the normal officer hours' during the week as dictated by requirements of the service.

Attendance in the office is required for formal meetings; however, agile working arrangements are available for day-to-day business. We offer an excellent working environment with flexibility for working at home and an attractive annual leave policy.

The Democratic Services Team sits within Constitutional Services, which forms part of the Legal and Governance Department.

There are two further services areas within Constitutional Services, Electoral Services and Executive and Members Services.

We are looking for someone who has knowledge and experience in the democratic services and governance fields.

The post is politically restricted under the terms of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
