Base salary: £41,092 pa to £48,344 pa depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer a flexible benefits fund of 15% which is paid on top of the base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits – check them out in the Benefits section on our website.

About the role

The Delivery Manager role sits within the Delivery Integration & Management function. As the Delivery Manager you will be responsible for planning, directing and coordinating activities to manage and implement projects, programmes or product initiatives from initiation to final transition into operational, business-as-usual management across HS2.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs and coordinates activities to manage and implement projects and complex product initiatives from initiation to final transition into operational, business-as-usual management. Adopting and adapting appropriate delivery methodology and tools (e.g. waterfall or agile).
  • Engages and influences senior stakeholders across strategy and architecture, product teams and platform teams to ensure the portfolio will deliver the agreed business objectives and manages expectations of key project stakeholders.
  • Manages the operational aspects of the delivery across a project or complex product initiative, ensuring project monitoring and control processes are followed (including but not limited to change control, risk management, quality, finance and security).
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive delivery plan, including scope, timelines and resource allocation.
  • Supports Senior Delivery Manager with delivery of larger programmes as required.
  • Delivers value and agreed benefits on projects or product-based initiatives.
  • Drives realisation of products' and projects' objectives and key results and other value metrics defined on the roadmap.
  • Monitors and reports on progress, milestones and performance metrics to senior management, stakeholders and other relevant parties.
  • Actively manages risks, issues, and dependencies, and raises these to the portfolio management team and supports shaping and delivery of mitigating actions. Identifies mitigations to risks and issues.
  • Actively promotes and embeds Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work, and supports and complies with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.
About you

  • Agile and Lean practices. Good understanding and ability to identify, compare and apply the best processes or delivery methods to use.
  • Commercial Management. Ability to manage complex relationships with contracted suppliers.
  • Communication. Ability to build effective working relationships with team members and wider stakeholders. Ability to understand the needs of technical and business stakeholders and interpret them and manage expectations.
  • Financial management. Ability to consider the impact of user needs. Ability to report on financial delivery and monitor cost and budget.
  • Delivery Life cycle perspective. Ability to manage the delivery of IT products/projects at different life cycle phases.
  • Maintaining delivery momentum. Ability to facilitate the delivery flow of a programme/project/product, managing the pace and tempo. Ability to manage internal and external risks, issues and dependencies including where ownership exists outside the team.
  • Making a process work. Ability to identify and challenge complex or ineffective organisational processes. Ability to guide teams through the implementation of a new process.
  • Planning. Ability to lead the collaborative, dynamic planning process - prioritising the work that needs to be done against the capacity and capability of teams.
  • Team dynamics and collaboration. Ability to help create an effective team environment and empower others to deliver.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of a range of delivery methodologies (e.g. Waterfall, agile or lean), their implications and how they can be integrated in an IT portfolio of change.
  • Knowledge of risk management, business impact analysis and contingency arrangements relating to IT services.
  • Knowledge of business and IT aligned governance methodologies and frameworks (Enterprise Architecture, Service Design, Product Management and Service Management).
  • Knowledge of IT Operating Model best practice development and implementation methods.
  • Knowledge of capability maturity models integration, process and behavioural models in the context of IT change and configuration.

Experience

  • Experience of working on the delivery of IT-based projects/programmes using a variety of delivery methodologies.
  • Experience facilitating agile processes, ensuring multidisciplinary teams deliver and continuously improve.
  • Experience balancing multiple priorities on large scale, high-visibility projects and employing techniques to deal with ambiguity.
  • Experience of collaborating with suppliers and vendors.
  • Engagement and persuasive approach in dealing with decision makers at different levels.
