Vacancy: Electrical Design Engineer Degree Apprentice

Location: Manchester

Working Hours: Full-time Position

Azenta Life Sciences develops a variety of low-power (sub-500W) automated equipment specifically designed for bio-sample management, including decapping / recapping machines.

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Electrical Design Engineer Apprentice to join our dynamic team.

Role Overview

As an Electrical Design Engineer Apprentice, you will be a part of our engineering team. This apprenticeship will offer you hands‑on experience and professional development opportunities in a supportive environment.

Throughout the duration of the apprenticeship, you will be taught, and put into practice, engineering skills which will be key for an engineering role at Azenta.

Your apprenticeship will last for a minimum of 5 years (Depending on Previous Learning), during which time you will rotate around the engineering teams across our business.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

You will undertake a series of objective training placements in different departments working on initial design all the way through to manufacture and installation. These may include:

  • Operates as team member on a variety of customer and internal development projects.
  • Works with other members of the hardware and software teams to develop and validate new automation equipment and labware.
  • Operates CAD system, company data-management system (Agile PLM) and other business IT tools.
  • Conducts tests on equipment and / or labware and evaluates results.
  • Produces documentation, (e.g., test results reports, design calculations) and records in company’s document management system.
  • Introduces design or process improvements where applicable, e.g., assists with the generation of standard templates for calculations and / or reports.
  • Where applicable, you may also experience business functions outside of Engineering, such as Finance, Customer Service and Sales in order to gain a full understanding of our business
Requirements
  • Your Level 3 subjects must include mathematics and a science subject; for instance, A-level Mathematics and Physics or BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering.
  • You should also have five GCSEs at grade 4 to 9 (or equivalent), including English, Mathematics and Science.
  • Willingness to continue your academic studies on day release basis and complete end point assessments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A positive and proactive attitude towards work.
  • Ability to work well in a team as well as independently.
