Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Safety Engineer to join a high-integrity, defence/aerospace oriented team. The role focuses on safety analyses (FMEA, FMECA), hazard management and safety case development for secure, mission-critical systems.

You will embed safety into design from concept to delivery, mentor junior engineers, and support bids with risk assessments, working within a structure that requires DV level clearance and sole UK national eligibility.

Qualifications

• Experience in safety-critical industries such as defence, aerospace, rail, or nuclear.
• Strong knowledge of safety standards and methodologies.
• Experience in hazard analysis, risk management, FMEA/FMECA, and safety case development.
• Understanding of verification, validation, and assurance processes.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical report-writing skills.
• Ability to influence engineering decisions in multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Conduct hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety analysis activities throughout the product lifecycle.
• Perform FMEA, FMECA, FHA, FTA, and other safety and reliability assessments.
• Define, derive, and manage safety requirements, ensuring traceability and compliance.
• Develop and maintain safety cases, hazard logs, and supporting safety documentation.
• Support product design and development by integrating safety considerations into engineering decisions.
• Facilitate safety reviews, risk workshops, and design assessments.
• Ensure safety requirements are verified and validated through testing and analysis.
• Provide safety guidance to engineering teams, customers, and stakeholders.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support bids and proposals through safety engineering expertise and risk assessment.
