Job summary

The University of Sheffield, AMRC Machining Group, seeks a Senior Technical Fellow to lead technical delivery on defence projects, oversee line management, and steer strategic technical direction while delivering high-quality outputs. The role requires managing multiple projects, engaging with partners and stakeholders, and advancing manufacturing knowledge.

Qualifications

• Strong background in Machining processes and optimisation of these processes.
• Ability to lead a defence project and manage a portfolio of work totaling £1m+ per annum.
• Experience in stakeholder and partner management with a strong customer experience.
• Proven ability to develop growth strategy aligned with financial stability and strategic vision.

Responsibilities

• Lead on the technical delivery of a defence project for partners and funding bodies.
• Line management of staff within a defence project, including SRDS reviews.
• Accountable for technical decision making within the area of responsibility.
• Produce monthly KPI performance reports with project management colleagues.
• Communicate with project teams, stakeholders and customers on a regular basis.
• Review and approve reports detailing methodology, materials, measurements, and procedures.
• Establish a reputation as a world-class solution provider and provide technical advice.
• Develop strategic engagement plans for conferences and disseminate information on new technologies and trends.
• Design new processes and technology considering customer/market cost and feasibility.
• Identify a technology roadmap and grow a portfolio to support development.
• Develop technical solutions and approaches for staff adoption to advance machining knowledge.
• Maintain reputation through project delivery and customer engagement.
• Lead and guide high-performing teams and ensure alignment with organisational goals.
