Job Summary

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Base: Scarborough

Position: Decontamination (HPV/UV-C) Technician – Facilities Management, York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals

An exciting opportunity to join the YTHFM team at Scarborough Hospital. You will contribute to the Trust’s Infection Prevention and Control Strategy by preparing and executing decontamination processes safely across wards, departments and non‑clinical areas. The role involves lifting, handling equipment and long periods of standing, and may require travel to other Trust sites. Overtime and travel are possible for those who wish to do so.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare rooms, environments and equipment for decontamination in line with standard operating procedures, including completing safety checks after deployment.
  • Clean environments using specialised equipment to ensure a safe deployment.
  • Inspect equipment before and after deployment, identify faults and report via the appropriate channel.
  • Maintain and record compliant documentation.
  • Ensure health and safety of all individuals in the environment during deployments, in accordance with the Department’s Standard Operating Procedures and risk assessments.
  • Work across sites when required.
  • Monitor stock levels and order supplies as necessary.
  • When not deployed to HPV, support the Domestic and Facilities Services team with related tasks.

Person Specification

Education (essential): Inivos Equipment user Certificate – HPV and UV‑C (or willingness to complete within 12 months).

Education (desirable): Maths and English GCSE or Level 2, IOSH certification.

Experience (essential): Knowledge and experience of specialist cleaning, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Experience (desirable): Knowledge and experience of decontamination.

Skills (essential): Manual dexterity, manual handling and working at height, full driving licence.

Skills (desirable): Awareness and appreciation of infection prevention issues.

Aptitude and personal qualities (essential): Ability to work in a team, across all sites, and to plan, organise and adjust work activities to meet service demand.
