Job summary

Imperial College London in London invites applications for a Doctoral Candidate position in the Department of Physics. The project centers on generating and hyperspectral characterisation of space–time light fields and their interaction with space–time metamaterials.

The successful candidate will work on complex helical light fields, perform experiments, and participate in secondments at UPNA and Nireos to develop theory and advanced spectroscopy techniques. Starting date: February 2027.

Qualifications

  • During the project, the candidate will develop core expertise in generation and hyperspectral characterization of structured space–time light fields.
  • Work includes interaction with space–time metamaterials and advanced spectroscopy techniques.
  • Secondments at UPNA (theory development) and Nireos (spectroscopy) will strengthen training.

Responsibilities

  • Develop complex helical light fields for excitation of space–time metamaterials.
  • Experimentally generate and characterize non-separable space–time beams via hyperspectral imaging.
  • Observe synthetic motion with circular acceleration and corresponding synchrotron radiation.

Job description

Doctoral Candidate position at the Department of Physics, Imperial College London, United Kingdom
  • Develop complex helical light fields for the excitation of space–time metamaterials
  • Experimentally generate and characterize non-separable space–time beams via hyperspectral imaging
  • Observe synthetic motion with circular acceleration and the corresponding synchrotron radiation

During the thesis, the candidate will develop core expertise in the generation and hyperspectral characterization of structured space–time light fields and their interaction with space–time metamaterials, further strengthened through secondments at UPNA (theory development) and Nireos (advanced spectroscopy techniques).
