Job summary

The University of Reading invites applications for a Database Manager and Scientific Programmer to support researchers reconstructing past environments as part of the EcoArch project. Based in the Department of Geography and Environmental Science, you will collaborate with project scientists in Reading, Oslo and Penn State, and with collaborators in Africa.

You will provide programming and database support, manage data and model resources, and implement quality control procedures.

Job Description

The Database Manager and Scientific Programmer will provide support to a dynamic team of researchers working on the reconstruction of past environments as part of the EcoArch project (https://research.reading.ac.uk/palaeoclimate/projects/). They will be based in the Department of Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Reading and will collaborate with project scientists involved in the EcoArch project in Reading, Oslo and Penn State, as well as collaborators in Africa. The post involves providing programming and database support for the research team, including the management of data and model resources and implementation of appropriate quality control procedures. The post-holder will assist in obtaining data from external sources, the design of databases, analyses of palaeodata and model simulations, and will have the opportunity to participate in the scientific dissemination and publication activities of the research team.
