Job summary

Innova Solutions is seeking a Database Engineer for a 24-month contract in a hybrid London/Sussex setup. The role covers enterprise relational and NoSQL databases, with emphasis on Oracle and PostgreSQL and exposure to Cassandra, MongoDB and Couchbase.

You will automate provisioning, configuration, deployment and lifecycle management, while supporting CI/CD pipelines and production releases across dev, test, staging and production environments.

Qualifications

• Hands-on database engineer with strong DBA fundamentals.
• Experienced with both relational and NoSQL databases.
• Strong Oracle and PostgreSQL skills; exposure to Cassandra, MongoDB and/or Couchbase.
• Automation-focused, with IaC, CI/CD and modern DevOps practices.

Database Engineer

24 month contract

Inside IR35 - Paying up to £40 per hour via umbrella.

Location: Hybrid - 3 days per week in office in London or Sussex

Responsibilities

• Configuring, deploying, administering and supporting enterprise relational and NoSQL database platforms.
• Provide engineering and operational support across, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra and Couchbase
• Build, configure and maintain database environments across development, test, staging and production.
• Develop automated and repeatable approaches for database provisioning, configuration, deployment and lifecycle management.
• Implement database configuration and infrastructure through code wherever practical, reducing manual administration and configuration drift.
• Support database deployments through CI/CD pipelines and automated release processes.
• Perform database installation, upgrades, patching and version management.
• Manage database schemas, users, roles, permissions and access controls.
• Support database security, vulnerability remediation, encryption and compliance requirements.
• Monitor database availability, capacity, performance and operational health.
• Investigate and resolve database performance issues, including, Query, performance, Indexing, Execution plans, Locking and contention, Connection management, Storage and capacity and Replication performance.
• Participate in production incident management, root-cause analysis and problem management.
• Work with Data Architects and application architects to ensure database implementations align with agreed data models and architectural standards.
• Support database migrations, platform upgrades and technology modernisation initiatives.
• Develop and maintain database engineering standards, operational procedures, runbooks and technical documentation.
• Identify opportunities to simplify and standardise the database estate through common engineering patterns, tooling and automation.
• Contribute to capacity planning, technology lifecycle management and database platform roadmaps.

Requirements

• A hands-on database engineer with strong DBA fundamentals.
• Experienced across both relational and NoSQL database technologies.
• Strong in Oracle and PostgreSQL with practical exposure to Cassandra, MongoDB and/or Couchbase.
• Comfortable configuring and supporting highly available, distributed database environments.
• Automation-focused and motivated to replace manual DBA activities with repeatable engineering solutions.
• Experienced with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and modern DevOps engineering practices.
• Comfortable working across development, test and production environments.
• Experienced in performance tuning, troubleshooting and production incident resolution.
• Security and resilience conscious, with experience supporting controlled enterprise environments.
• Comfortable collaborating with Data Architects, application engineers, infrastructure teams and production support functions.
• Experienced in large-scale financial services or similarly regulated environments.
• Able to balance engineering change with the stability and operational requirements of business-critical production systems.
