Job description

The team: This is an exciting opportunity for a Database Engineer with administration and development skills to join a small and friendly team of Database Engineers responsible for managing business-critical databases hosted in AWS.

The Database Administration (DBA) team is committed to ensuring optimal system performance, reliability, data integrity, and security, while maintaining 24/7 availability of customer data across diverse database platforms.

Some of the tech stack you will be working with includes: AWS RDS Aurora Postgres, AWS RDS MySQL, SQL Server hosted on AWS EC2, WSFC, AlwaysOn, RedGate tools, Terraform, Jira just to name a few.

Our mission is to proactively maintain and monitor the database systems, pre-empting potential issues and guaranteeing 99.99% availability year-round. We are dedicated to promptly addressing stakeholders' support requests, ensuring uninterrupted access to critical data. Additionally, we are committed to fostering innovation within our DBA practices, continuously seeking, and implementing automation tools to enhance efficiency and quality.

Responsibilities
  • Reporting into the Head of Data Platforms.
  • Providing standard database maintenance and administration tasks while working closely with Senior Database Engineers to maintain database systems.
  • Performing all kind of BAU activities independently, and supporting database team stakeholders.
  • Working closely with platform and development teams to make sure we get the best performance from our database systems.
  • This role will require on-call participation on a rota basis. Cloud IaaS and PaaS knowledge and experience with AWS services – RDS, EC2, IAM, S3, DMS, CloudWatch, Lambda.
  • Knowledge and experience managing Aurora PostgreSQL, SQL Server and MySQL databases.
  • The ability to write and execute SQL scripts in Production.
  • Respond to a variety of database related requests on a daily basis.
  • Show a willingness to learn about latest cloud & AI technologies in the database space.
  • Maintain a consistently high level of service delivery for incidents, requests and changes.
  • The ability to prioritise projects and tasks.
Bonus Skills
  • Experience with WSFC & SQL Server AlwaysOn availability groups.
  • Knowledge of PostgreSQL Logical replication and extensions.
  • Previous experience using AI.
  • Experience with Terraform.
  • Supported Redshift cluster databases.
  • Worked with DB monitoring tools – Redgate Monitor.
  • Worked with personal data in a regulated company.
Qualifications
  • Hold AWS or Azure certificates.
  • Subject to having the right to work in the country of choice.
