Job summary

Hunter Bond seeks a seasoned Database Administrator to own the PostgreSQL and MySQL estate for a growing FinTech client in London. You will manage administration, monitoring, high availability, and performance across multiple database technologies, while coordinating with developers on schema changes and data integrations.

The role requires hands-on DBA expertise, strong SQL skills, and experience with dashboards such as Grafana.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience as a DBA.
• Strong knowledge of MySQL.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL or QuestDB.
• Backup and Restore strategies; query planning and indexing.
• Able to write complex SQL queries for production and reporting.
• Integrating database queries with dashboards.

Responsibilities

• Primary point of contact for database technologies including administration, monitoring, high availability and performance.
• Database upgrades, patching and version migrations.
• Design and implement backup and restore procedures with documentation.
• Monitor health, capacity, and performance; identify bottlenecks.

The role

My client are a growing FinTech organisation looking to add a talented DBA to their team.

You will take ownership of the extensive Database estate, coding day to day administration, reliability, design and support across a range of Database technologies.

Responsibilities

• Main point of contact for Database technologies including administration, monitoring, high availability, performance and reliability
• Database upgrades, patching and version migration
• Design and implementation of backup and restore procedures including relevant documentation
• Monitoring health, capacity, and performance, identifying bottlenecks
• Reviewing schema changes alongside developers
• Query optimisation, index design and access patterns
• Collaborating with developers on integrations
• Writing and optimising SQL queries for dashboards/reporting (Grafana etc.)
• Managing permissions and privileges

Required experience

• Hands on experience working as a DBA
• Strong knowledge of MySQL
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL or QuestDB
• Backup and Restore strategiesQuery planning, indexing strategies, connection management, role management
• Able to write complex SQL queries for both production and reporting
• Integrating database queries with dashboards such as Grafana or other Observability tooling
• Version controlled/branching database systems (eg Dolt)
• Familiarity with Redis/Elastic stack highly desirable
• Comfortable with Linux environments and the command line
