£90,000-£95,000 + Bonus + Equity

Our client, a rapidly scaling fintech scale up, is hiring a Senior Database Administrator to support and optimise SQL Server environments that power their global client base. Customers operate both self-hosted and SaaS deployments, each with different performance profiles, scale requirements, and operational constraints.

This is a hands‑on, high‑impact role supporting complex financial workloads, large datasets, and auto‑generated code that requires careful optimisation, monitoring, and proactive maintenance to ensure reliability, speed, and predictable behaviour at scale.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and optimise SQL Server instances across SaaS and client‑hosted environments.
  • Analyse and improve performance of auto‑generated queries and ORM‑driven SQL.
  • Lead indexing, statistics, and query‑tuning strategies for high‑volume workloads.
  • Maintain database hygiene: fragmentation, archiving, growth plans, and maintenance jobs.
  • Diagnose client issues, query analysis, and recommend configuration improvements.
  • Implement and refine DB monitoring, alerting, and performance baselines.
  • Review schema changes and advise Engineering on efficient data access patterns.
  • Produce clear guidance for client DB configuration, scaling, and operational practices.
  • Support incident response and lead RCAs for database‑related issues.
About You - Ideal Profile
  • 7+ years as a SQL Server DBA supporting large‑scale or enterprise systems.
  • Deep expertise in T‑SQL, execution plans, indexing, and SQL Server internals.
  • Experience with Azure SQL, Managed Instance, VM‑hosted, and client‑managed installs.
  • Strong capability in tuning auto‑generated SQL and identifying structural bottlenecks.
  • Comfortable working directly with clients to diagnose issues and promote best‑practice.
  • Experienced with monitoring and observability tools (Azure Monitor, etc.).
  • Strong grounding in security, backups, HA/DR, and resilience for mission‑critical systems.
  • Proactive, analytical, calm under pressure, and highly attentive to detail.
What Success Looks Like (KPIs & Metrics)
  • Faster query execution, reduced slow‑running operations, and improved throughput.
  • Stable, predictable performance across all hosting models.
  • Improved index health, lower fragmentation, and consistent database hygiene.
  • Positive client feedback on support quality and performance recommendations.
  • Fewer DB‑related incidents with root cause and preventative measures adopted.
  • Engineering alignment to recommended schema, SQL, and operational standards.

This role is paying up to £95k and is one day per week in London (Liverpool st). If this is of interest, please can you send me an updated CV and we can arrange a call.
